General, Paediatric and Trauma Surgery
Dr Goonan’s practice covers many fields of surgery in both public and private hospitals. As a Senior Specialist Anaesthetist at a number of Sydney’s tertiary level teaching hospitals, Paul’s days are filled with an ever-changing list of surgical cases ranging from the suturing of a hand laceration to the complexities of open heart surgery and delicate, yet complex, facial reconstruction. Paul also has extensive experience in trauma and emergency anaesthetics for both paediatrics and adults alike. Some of the types of surgery that Paul provides anaesthesia for include:
- Trauma surgery -including surgeries related to traumatic injuries, such as fractures, internal bleeding, and organ damage.
- Paediatric surgery - including general and emergency surgery
- Endocrine surgery, including the thyroid and parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, and pancreas.
- Upper gastrointestinal surgery - including gallstones, liver and pancreatic tumours
- Colorectal surgery - colonoscopy, bowel cancer, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, haemorrhoids
- Surgical oncology - includes surgeries related to the treatment of cancer, including biopsies, tumour removal, lymph node removal and radical cancer related reconstructions.
- Vascular surgery includes surgeries related to the blood vessels, such as varicose vein removal, carotid endarterectomy, and aneurysm repair.
- Gynaecological surgery including hysterectomies, oophorectomies and tubal ligations.
- Obstetric surgery including Caesarean sections
